A crane is a machine that is used in every work place where heavy materials are needed to be transported from one place to the other. It is a machine which has a wire rope which performs the action of lifting and moving heavy materials from one place to the other. The wire rope is attached to the iron rods that hold the rope to lift weights that are out of the normal human capability. The earlier forms of cranes were the wood tied with ropes which helped people to carry out their loads. With technological advancements wood gave way to iron rods and wire ropes.

Truck Crane
The truck crane is used in many daily activities. A truck crane is a crane mounted on a truck and which can be used to move from one place to the other. We find this type of crane very frequently on roads. When a car or bus breaks down in the middle of the road, a truck crane is called in to move the break down car. The rope wire is attached to a pulley with iron rods supporting it. Sometimes these cranes are also used in many construction purposes.

Hoist Crane
Hoist cranes are also quite popular. From an iron beam a motor is attached through which the rope hangs .The motor remains fixed while the ropes perform the lifting process. These are seen in ropeways. The wire that carries the cabin which contains people or even in carrying materials the ropes carry the materials from one place to the other. Often these are also used in mines to carry coals or other respective items.

Lifting Crane

Usually they are found in ship yards to lift and transport cargoes and other goods.

Hydraulic Crane
Hydraulic cranes are the modern type of cranes. These are huge monster type of cranes used to perform much heavier tasks than usually done by other cranes. During natural calamity if a loaded train gets derailed or turns upside down, a hydraulic crane is used to lift it and bring it up. Almost all heavy tasks are performed by these cranes.

Portable Crane
Portable cranes are used to carry light to mild heavy works. In factories where light cargoes or other materials needed to be transported, these cranes are used. They are small in nature but can perform big works.

Boom Crane(Overhead Crane)
Boom cranes are normal cranes that have long booms from which ropes are suspended which allow the load to be carried. The base is fixed in a motor which can rotate and change direction as required. These are used in building purposes, high rises, to transport materials to the highest level.
